make it yours

time inc. is experimenting with a customized magazine that combines reader-selected sections from eight publications as it tries to mimic in printed form the personalized news feeds that have become popular on the internet. called "mine," the five-issue, 10-week experiment also aligns readers with the branding message that its sole advertising partner, toyota motor corp., has for its new lexus 2010 RX sport utility vehicle: it's as customizable as the magazine carrying its ads. the magazine is free, but the print edition is limited to the first 31,000 respondents, while an online version is available for another 200,000. sign ups are available now.

shower of blessings

my good friend and college roommate, T, is getting married at the end of this month. last week, i attended her lovely wedding shower that one of her church friends hosted for her.

it was a casual but cute shower, with a ton of good food and desserts~ T even got a home-made ice cream cake.

after lunch, the bridesmaids led the group through two games. we had a lot of fun watching the bride-to-be spell words with her (eh-hem) butt for getting the wrong answers!

during gift opening time, T received so many pieces of lingerie that we lost count. i think she was also surprised that so many came from her friends.

there is now less than a month till the wedding in hawaii. i'm sure we'll all have fun again the next time we meet!

just peachy

with the consistently warm weather and lots of rain nourishment in the past few weeks, our little peach tree in the backyard has bloomed.

each year, we have to battle with the birds and squirrels to see who gets to the peaches first. they win most of the time. maybe setting up a scarecrow would help?

thai kitchen

two weeks ago, a friend invited me to lunch somewhere in redwood city. it wasn't just an ordinary restaurant. at atherton appliance & kitchens, you are actually in a kitchen showroom and you sit around a kitchen counter. then, a culinary instructor will have a cooking demonstration in front of you, and you get to taste the food right away.

our theme that day was "quick and easy thai" - recipes from this cookbook.

our culinary experts - barbara and barbara

braised chicken in yellow curry

preparing our dessert...

thai fried bananas with vanilla ice cream and almond crisps

there was actually a first course to the menu - a roasted eggplant salad with cilantro and lime. but it looked so good that i was too excited to taste and forgot about the picture!
