europe: day 4

DECEMBER 28, 2007
MILAN & LUCERNE

a very cold morning in milan, but we were all warmed up for the activity today!

we arrived at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, supposedly the oldest building in the world to serve as a shopping center, before the shops started their business day. it was to give us a chance to look at the Duomo of Milan (cathedral) and take pictures at the piazza.

still waiting for gucci to open, but another deal was already made at lv... hehe

my impression of milan was slightly better than rome. it definitely was a newer city, but it still gave me a somewhat unpleasant feeling. perhaps we were traveling as a group of asians, and if that didn't have the word tourists written over us, i don't know what did. we were easy targets of pickpockets and the notorious gypsies. one of the gypsies "offered" my sister corn or bird feed for the pigeons, but she didn't take any. the guide pre-warned us not to accept as they would ask for money once accepted. a few minutes later, we heard loud yelling a few steps away. it was from another family who're in our tour. they were shouting at another gypsy, who forcefully held the hand of one of them to take the corn. pretty scary...

after speed-shopping (we only had a short 2 hours!), this marked our last stop in italy. our next country was switzerland. we're only stopping at one city - lucerne.

there was only about 15 sec from where our bus passed by to enjoy lake como, one of the largest lakes that bordered italy and switzerland

2 more hours of bus ride brought us the first glimpse of lake lucerne

the beauty of nature

switzerland was SO PRETTY! the city looked like it came out of the cartoon heidi. in fact, the local tv was showing the cartoon!

i must mention that the hotel we stayed in - radisson sas hotel, lucerne - was awesome!! it's new, clean, and stylish. sis and i didn't want to leave! i highly recommend to stay here if you plan to visit lucerne.

i'm totally in love with switzerland~ i'll definitely go back!
and the trip just keeps getting better and better. :)
